Clare Ostler

On Tuesday, July 2, 2019, Clare Ostler, our sweet mother, grandmother and wife passed on to her heavenly home at the age of 69.

Clare was born May 6, 1950 to Darrell and Frances (Tennant) Bills of Sandy, Utah. She received her English-language degree from Brigham Young University in 1972. She was a dedicated teacher for Jordan School District for 40 years. On July 22nd, 1971 she married her best friend Orville Lynn Ostler. On October 19, 1972 they were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City temple.

Clare was a much loved teacher and to ask her family, the feeling was mutual. She ate, slept, breathed education. Her love of teaching was inspiring. She always took each opportunity to teach as an opportunity to learn and was a lifelong student, as well, learning new skills like knitting and speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.

Even after retiring in 2013 she continued to volunteer in the community English language classroom at Sandy Elementary; she taught English and learned Spanish from her much loved students. She and Lynn served as temple workers for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved being able to serve. She was a consummate cheerleader for her family members and found innumerable ways to encourage those around her. Clare was passionate about education, reading, family history, studying her Spanish, and knitting. In 2015, her life was changed by the onset of Guillain-Barre' Syndrome, but her perseverance during this trial demonstrated her dauntless spirit. Clare brought joy and love to all around her and will be missed during this temporary separation.

Clare is survived by her husband Lynn, two daughters TaLaisa (Lester), and Megan (Jake), and three grandsons Gabriel, Caleb, and Elijah.

We will be honoring and celebrating her life Wednesday, July 10th at 11 a.m. at the Sandy Mt. Jordan 3rd Ward Chapel, 8950 South 400 East, with a viewing one hour prior to services. There will also be a viewing Tuesday, July 9th, from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary at 8090 South State Street in Midvale. Interment at Larkin Sunset Cemetery, 1950 East 10600 South in Sandy.
