Clara Smith Stephenson returned to her Father in Heaven and her loving family members on the other side of the veil on October 12, 2018 at the age of 95.
Clara was born May 30, 1923 to Archibald Smith and Bertha Lovina Crane in Draper, Utah. She was a life-long resident of Draper. Clara grew up in a loving family, the fourth of eight children.
She attended Jordan High School and LDS Business School in Salt Lake City and worked as a bookkeeper for Draper Egg Producers.
She married Russell Eugene Stephenson in the Logan Utah Temple on July 20, 1950. They lived in Logan while Russell attended Utah State Agricultural College, and in Tooele for a short time where Russell taught school. In 1955, they built a home on Clara's parents' family farm in Draper. That is where they raised their family and lived out their lives.
Clara worked hard all her life and taught her children the value of work. She was a wonderful homemaker and a good cook. She helped her children gain strong testimonies of the gospel of Jesus Christ through her example and the way she lived her life.
She served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the time she was a young adult. She was a Young Women's leader and served in the Primary as a leader and teacher for more than 30 years. She was a life-long visiting teacher.
Her family was her life. Each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild felt her love. She set the bar high for each member of her family. She expected that they would always do what is right.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, her parents, and her siblings Wilma Richins, Calvin, Murray, and Milton Smith.
She is survived by her children: Marla Martineau (Dean), and Tamara Elwood (Jim), both of Smithfield, Utah; Bryan Stephenson (Naomi), and Sterling Stephenson (Lori) of Draper, Utah; Lyle Stephenson (Lori) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Cherryle Bourquein (Norman) of Batesville, Indiana. Also, 23 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, her siblings: Lynn and Ray Smith, and Barbara Jenks.
