Cindy Helquist

November 24, 1956 — March 31, 2021

Cindy Helquist

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, after a valiant fight against cancer.

Cindy was born on November 24, 1956, in Murray, Utah, to Leland and Joyce Jenkins. Cindy grew up in West Jordan, where she made many lifelong friends. She was a graduate of Bingham High School, class of 1975, where she was a proud member of the Minerettes and Madrigals.

Cindy married her eternal companion Alex Helquist on January 16, 1976, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with five beautiful children and 13 grandchildren. Cindy was a dedicated mother and loved her family. She taught them how to love unconditionally. She always looked forward to having her family together and loved seeing her grandchildren. She always sent them out the door with a treat in their hand. Cindy loved nature and enjoyed spending time working in her yard tending to her flowers, hiking, snowshoeing and participating in water recreation. She especially enjoyed Fall and taking drives to enjoy the beautiful autumn leaves. She and Alex loved to vacation and travel with family and friends.  Cindy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was strong in her faith and convictions. She led by example and was truly selfless. She found great joy serving in the Primary. She also served in many other callings, including working at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple with her husband. She truly loved serving the Lord and others.

After graduating from high school, Cindy became a dental assistant and continued working until she and Alex started their family. She was able to stay home with her children when they were young, and began working as a house cleaner once they were all in school. She later went back to work as a dental assistant. Cindy loved these jobs and made many more lifelong friends among the people she worked with and the clients and patients she served.  She continued working until shortly after her diagnosis in 2018.

She is survived by her loving husband Alex; children Heather (Jeff) Hofmann, Wade (Fabiola) Helquist, Blake (Brittany) Helquist, Clint (Camille) Helquist, and Brad (ShayLee) Helquist; grandchildren Britton, Hadlee, Brylee, Emma, Mahonri, Luke, Lydia, Jaxton, Chloe, Irelynn, Tucker, Finlee, and Grant; mother Joyce Jenkins; siblings Terry (Mark) Losee, Jolene (Ken) Bell, Blake (Gwen) Jenkins, and Janet (Scott) Murray.

Preceded in death by her father Leland Jenkins.

The family would like to thank the many dedicated doctors, nurses and others at the Huntsman Cancer Center who cared for Cindy.
