Chrystal Cotton, 33, died Wednesday, June 18, 2015, at her home; a victim of clinical depression.
Chrystal graduated from Bingham High School in 2000 and graduated with her registered nursing degree from Weber State University and has been a practicing nurse since.
Two years of her career, she was a travel nurse in San Diego, CA, Tucson, AZ, Washington D.C., ending with Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. She returned to Utah and became an ER nurse at University of Utah, Salt Lake Regional, and St. Mark's hospitals. While she was working on her degree, she worked as a CNA at Legacy in the Alzheimer's unit.
When Chrystal was on her way to work, she would call her mother. Her mother would always ask, "Are you on your way to saving lives?" Chrystal would reply, "Damn right I am!" She loved her work and did indeed save lives. She was a compassionate person in all aspects of her life.
She loved her home and was proud of her back yard and garden that she worked so hard to make beautiful. She and her dad planted a tree in her back yard this spring. They named it "Wilford Brimley" because her dad looks so much like him.
Chrystal was like the sunshine, spreading it around with her clothes, her expressions, and her famous comments. She brightened the room whenever she entered. Her topics of discussion always brought laughter, as they were colorful and happy.
Chrystal is survived by her parents, John and Cherie Cotton, her sister, Alyse Cotton (Ian Innocenti), her nephew, Shaun Hales, several aunts, uncles and cousins. She leaves behind her cats that she loved so much, Sasha, Sketch, Lily, and Lucy. The family expresses great appreciation for her many faithful friends.
Funeral services will be held at one o'clock Wednesday, June 24, at the Jordan River Stake Center, 1549 West 11400 South, South Jordan, Utah. Friends may call Tuesday, June 23, from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Midvale, and again at the stake center one hour prior to the service. Interment, South Jordan City Cemetery.
