Charles 'Michael' Parkin passed away surrounded by his loved ones on July 23, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Michael was born August 29th, 1971 in Nephi, Utah to Charles Harry and Phyllis Haycock Parkin. He was raised in Nephi and received his elementary and secondary education in the Nephi school system, often praising numerous teachers who impacted his life for good; notably: Betty Mickelson, Eddes Johnson, Nancy Zoulek, and Loreta Wicker. He excelled in scholastics, band, and other endeavors - being an English Sterling Scholar, member of the National Honor Society, Band President, and Yearbook Editor during his high school years. He enjoyed the privilege of traveling to the Soviet Union with his fellow classmates during his Junior year of high school. He also had a strong affinity for the country of Japan, having traveled there with his grandparents at the age of nine and developing many life-long friendships with his Japanese brothers & sisters. Michael loved spending time with and learning in the shadows of his grandparents: the late John and Florence Parkin, and G. Alma and Doris Haycock, all of Nephi.
Michael studied Business Management at Brigham Young University and later worked in the car business and computer-tech industry in various positions, being employed by Parkin Motor Company, Smith Auto Company, and DHI Computing. He was most recently employed by World Strides Education Student Travel.
He married Stacey Whitney on July 29th, 1993. They were later divorced. From that marriage came an amazing son, Kameron, who was the light of his life. He married Michael Robinson Burton on July 4th, 2011 in Washington D.C. and readily welcomed two step-sons, Mitchell and Ethan, into his life.
Michael is survived by: His Husband - Michael R. Burton; Children - Kameron M. (Kimberly Sherman) Parkin, Mitchell Burton, Ethan Burton; Granddaughter - Elizabeth Jane Parkin; Parents - Charles & Phyllis Parkin, Thomas Mark & Christine Hinckley Robinson Burton; Siblings - Michelle (Todd) Hepworth, Kate F. (Billy) Fullmer, Christine Carrol, Mark Burton, and Matthew (Mellissa Mello) Burton; Special Friends - Gary J. Allen, Shelcy Barrett, and Alan K. Christensen; and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends of whom Michael adored and loved dearly.
Michael wished to be cremated and in lieu of flowers, please donate to the HRC of Utah in memory of Michael Parkin.
A short memorial service will be held at the LDS Chapel, 222 South 100 East in Nephi, UT on Monday, July 30th at 11 am with a friends and family gathering one hour prior at the same location.
