Charles Lonny Workman (Charlie) was born on July 17, 1950 in Green River, Wyoming to Norman C. Workman and Reita Ames. He graduated from Skyline High School and Utah Technical College of Salt Lake with a degree in Building Construction. Charlie was a true craftsman, working more than 50 years in construction and finish carpentry, eventually becoming known as the “wood guy”.
He was enormously proud of his family. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Marla, daughter Hillary and her husband Andrew, and son Charles James and his wife Melissa. He was a devoted grandfather to William (11), Piper (10), Addison (6), Alexander (6), and Jameson (2). The children will forever miss their beloved Boppa. He also leaves behind his stepmother Jewel, brother Cal and sister-in-law Kathy, and his constant companion/best friend Hudson the chocolate lab.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters LaRue and Shanna, brother Randy, and two other very best friends Harley and Honey.
Charlie was happiest when outdoors, whether camping or hiking with his family, prospecting, fishing in Alaska, cooking up a mean dutch oven cobbler, or cruising around the neighborhood chatting with neighbors. He could build or fix anything and had all the necessary tools for any project. He was extremely generous with his time; always the first one to arrive and the last one to leave whenever anyone needed help. On the rare occasion he was indoors he could be found studying his books on the lost Rhoades mine and pouring over his trusty map of the High Uintas.
He died suddenly in his home with Hudson by his side on October 2, 2024. Now free from any physical constraints, he can roam free and finally find his gold.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 11:30 AM – 2:00 PM at the Lone Peak Park Pavilion, 10140 South 700 East, Sandy, Utah.
