Catherine Carlie Erickson

Catherine Carlie Winn Erickson, our beautiful, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, returned home to her Heavenly Father at the age of 82 on July 2, 2017, in West Jordan, Utah. It gives us great comfort and peace to think of the joyful reunion she had that morning with her dearly loved parents and brother on the other side of the veil.

Carlie was born on March 12, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Catherine Frances Brown and Douglas Olson Winn. Along with her younger brother, Douglas, she enjoyed many wonderful years growing up on their ranch in the mountains of the Wasatch Front. Carlie always had a very adventurous spirit, and she was a bit of a daredevil in her youth! She spoke often of the various adventures she had growing up there, and of her great love for her childhood home. She graduated from Jordan High School and worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the family-owned business, Winn & Company. After the business was sold, she went on to work at Transport Tire. Carlie was very meticulous and exact in her work, and she was always a very valued employee.

Carlie was a gifted accordion player, and she loved performing for others in her younger years and delighted many with her beautiful music. She loved music, and especially her Tabernacle Choir CDs that she played in her car all the time as she traveled to and from the cabin.

On April 19, 1955, Carlie married her sweetheart, Reed Milton Erickson, and they were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple one month later by Joseph Fielding Smith. They enjoyed 62 years of love and companionship together as they raised their 3 children, Cathie, Chris, and Steve, and worked together as a family to build their beautiful cabin in Woodland, Utah. The cabin was Carlie's paradise on earth, and she was at her very happiest when she was spending time at the cabin with Reed and all of her children and grandchildren.

Carlie was a wonderful cook, and she found great joy in trying new recipes and sharing them with her family and friends. Her family spent many years coming to Grandma's Diner to enjoy her love that she expressed in her delicious creations. Carlie was also a very talented quilter and knitter, and she made many useful and beautiful amazing works of art that are greatly cherished and loved.

Carlie and Reed spent many years with her brother, Douglas, and his wife Joanie, going on different cruises and spending time having many fun adventures together. They were the best of friends and loved each other's company, and they were always very close.

Carlie had a deep, abiding love for our Heavenly Father and for the Savior, and she expressed it often. She enjoyed attending the temple with Reed's sister, Beverly, every single week, and she continued that tradition for many years. She cherished her testimony of the gospel and radiated that testimony by her actions every day. She was always filled with kindness and love for other people, and she showed that love to everyone around her. She made many friends everywhere she went. Her beautiful smile and infectious laugh made everyone feel like family. She greatly loved the 60 plus years she spent associating with the members of her Midvale East 2nd Ward and neighborhood, and so much enjoyed and valued the many, many friendships made there.

Carlie dearly loved her many special canine companions over the years, and they adored her in return. To be an Erickson dog was truly a special privilege, and Carlie always made them such an important part of her family. She loved her family from the bottom of her soul, and she was constantly expressing that love in everything she did, no matter where she was. We will miss her with all of our hearts, and we look forward to a glorious reunion with her again someday.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Sunridge Assisted Living and Peak Home Medical, as well as The Cascades, for their loving kindness and gentle care of our dearest Carlie.

Carlie is survived by her husband, Reed; their children Cathie Yost; Chris Morse (Tom); and Steven (Cynthia) Erickson; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Joanie Winn, and her precious dog, Misty. Preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Douglas K. Winn.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Midvale East 2nd Ward, 7250 South 300 East, where there will be a viewing from 9:45 a.m.-10:45 a.m. preceding the service that morning. Interment will follow at the Sandy City Cemetery.
