Carolynn May Warner Van Liew passed away in the early morning on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the Bennion’s Veterans Home in Payson Utah.
Born August 7, 1940, in Nephi, Utah, to Lucille May (Memmott) and Harold John Warner, Carolynn had one brother, Von Ray Warner. The family lived in Nephi City until she was 6 years old and then moved up the canyon while her father ran the power plant. She lived there until she went to college at the University of Utah.
She graduated from Juab High School in 1958 and was a talented seamstress and homemaker. While attending the U, she met Dennis Van Liew. They were married on June 12, 1962. Dennis was a Marine Corps helicopter pilot. Carolynn always wanted to travel and see the world. This was something she was able to do by being a service man’s wife. One of the highlights was living in Hawaii. The longest place they lived was in Lake Forest, CA (formerly El Toro). They had two daughters, Stacy and Stephanie.
Carolynn loved to make crafts and arrange flowers. She was involved with many church activities -- from Road Shows to Emergency Preparedness. She loved to visit and help people. She was very compassionate and a true ministering sister. She was a homemaker and had odd jobs over the years. One job that she really enjoyed was running the lunch and activities for a Senior Center in California.
A great blessing and turning point in the family was when they were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on August 15, 1987.
After 30 years of living in El Toro, Dennis and Carolynn moved to Apple Valley, California to live near family. Then, they moved back to Nephi to live in Laurel Groves in 2015. She was optimistic about her triumphs over cancer that she had earlier and later in life. It was the dementia, in the past 10 years, that was the most difficult battle, especially for her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and her loving husband. She is survived by Stacy (Andrew) Thorn, Stephanie (Craig) Clark, 10 grandchildren and their spouses: Christina (Scott) Olson, Jacob (Jacque) Thorn, Joseph (Kylie) Thorn, John (Alli) Thorn, Nathan (Kaylynn) Clark, Sarah Clark, Sarah (Brandon) McKeachnie, Kyle Clark, Rebekah Thorn, Leah Thorn and 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, December 4, 2023, at 11:00 am at the 127 building (222 S 100 E Nephi). Interment at Vine Bluff Cemetery.
