Our beloved wife and mother Carolyn Russell Brooksby passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at home with her husband and daughter by her side.
She was born to Franklin James and Miriam Russell from Kamas, Utah on January 9, 1932 as the second of three girls. They later moved to the Union area where she attended elementary school, Union Jr. High and a year at Jordan High School. They then moved to Meridian, Idaho where she graduated high school. She attended BYU where she met her future husband and the love of her life. She married Wayne J Brooksby on September 9, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. They resided in Sandy, Utah for 60 happy years and spent the last 16 of those years wintering at their home in Washington, Utah where Carolyn also had many friends and relatives.
Carolyn was a very loving and outgoing person who made (and kept) many friends during her lifetime. She was always doing acts of kindness like remembering someone's birthday or anniversary or taking in a meal to some ill person and their family. She started and faithfully attended several "clubs" including one that they called the "Eaters Club" that continued meeting (almost) monthly for nearly 50 years. She loved family parties and family vacations and was never happier than when she was surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She and Wayne took up square dancing and spent many years dancing with The Electric Squares club. She also loved to travel and visited nearly all 50 states as well as Canada and Mexico in their trusty (and sometimes not so trusty) motorhome.
Carolyn was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in many teaching and leadership positions. She also loved her time working at the Jordan River Temple where she had many wonderful experiences and made many dear friends.
She lived a very wonderful and full life and will be dearly missed by her husband, children - Craig (Marian) of Midvale, UT; Saundra (Mark) Gotberg of Riverton, UT; Darren (Leslie) of Mililani, HI; Kaylyn of Sandy, UT and sister Frances (Ray) Livingston of Washington, UT. She has 7 grandchildren and 3 1/3 great-grandchildren who will miss her love and encouragement. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Virginia Jones, and grandson Bryce.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Jordan 1st Ward chapel, 8950 S. 400 E. in Sandy, UT. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, October 25, 2015 between 6 and 8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary (8090 S. State Street) and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
