Carol Jaynes Howlett

December 30, 1931 — July 31, 2024

Carol Jaynes Howlett

Carol Jaynes Howlett (92,) beloved wife of Glen Golden Howlett; as well as mother, daughter, sister, grandmother & friend, passed away due to complications from a fall.

Carol was born at home in Crescent, Utah (now a part of Sandy) to Arzie Henry Jaynes and Mary Ellen Hardcastle. In junior high school, Carol enjoyed singing, playing the violin and the French Horn in the marching band. She also enjoyed sports growing up.

Carol met Glen in English class her junior year at Jordan High School. They started dating at the Harvest Ball and never had eyes for anyone else the rest of their lives. Carol graduated in 1950, and joined Glen in attending Brigham Young University in the Fall of 1950. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on December 7, 1951. They then welcomed their first child, Alan, in September 1952. Carol struggled alone after Alan was taken in a drowning accident just before 2 years old while Glen was serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ in California. Soon after, she was called to serve in the same mission as her husband, but separately, then together the last two months in San Bernardino, California. She lit up the room and knew how to make anyone feel loved. Her laugh was contagious and her singing voice was soothing.

Carol and Glen then came home to raise five other children together. She enjoyed gardening, nature rides and hikes, going thrift and yard sale shopping. As a fetish, she collected purses, cuckoo clocks, and sweaters. Since Glen taught school in Industrial Arts, Math and English, they would enjoy many summers and holidays camping, fishing, hiking and sightseeing especially in state and national parks. When she was in her 40s, she started running with her neighborhood group called “The Joggers.” She loved running and competed in many races. She almost always won her division including in several St. George Marathons. After her own children were grown, she worked in the school lunch program and as a librarian at Edgemont Elementary School.

Carol was a special daughter of Heavenly Father. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many callings. Together with her husband, she served an additional five church senior service missions for the church. Carol was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, brother Arzie Lynn Jaynes, Sister Rella Wallace, son Alan Glen, son Bryan Lewis, son-in-law Joseph Ray Hatch, and great-grandsons Ryker Stetson Bishop and Sunia Timote Valele. She is survived by her husband Glen Golden Howlett, son Wade (Audrey), and daughters Geri Lyn Hatch, Cheryl Harper (Hawk), Lisa Ann Spizman, 21 grandchildren, and 52 great-grandchildren.
