Carmen Lucille Lloyd Houmand, 86, passed away June 12, 2024. She is reunited with her sweetheart Jay, daughter Lisa and her parents, family, and friends who preceded her. Carmen was born on October 20, 1937, to Delbert John Lloyd and LaVerda Okerlund, in Crescent, Utah.
She graduated from Jordan High School where she excelled in business classes and secured her first role at Continental Bank on the corner of 3rd South and Main in Salt Lake City where her window faced a clock on a building across the street which mockingly “seemed never to move.”
She married Jay Houmand on November 10, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple. They recently celebrated 66 years together before he preceded her in death on Thanksgiving day in 2021. They settled in Sandy, Utah for 25 years, before moving for 6 years to Groves, Texas. Upon retirement, they settled again in the Sandy, Utah area near where she was born.
A loving wife and mother, Carmen raised 4 children, Catherine, Lisa, Alyson, and Ryan. She was the local Parent Teacher Association (PTA) President while periodically returning to her business career working for organizations such as Jacobsen Construction, Steel Contractors, Inc. and other companies.
She was a talented musician, a gifted pianist and an organist. She began playing in public as a church organist at age 11. She played in congregations throughout her life and was an organist in the LDS Jordan River Temple for several years. She played piano in a dance band with her brothers. She was a piano teacher to people of all ages and interests. Her musical talent lives on through them.
She is was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Relief Society President, Primary president, Young Womens Organization President, organist and made her share of funeral potatoes (it’s time to have that favor returned).
Preceded in death by her husband, Jay, daughter Lisa, granddaughter Annie, and her parents, sister Dorothy, and brother Preston. She is survived by her children: Catherine (Dean Gardner), Alyson (Mike Pace), Ryan, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
