Carla Sargent

Carla Sargent passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18th, 2019 at her home in Hoytsville, UT. Carla was diagnosed with a brain tumor, "GBM The Beast," in March 2018. She bravely battled the effects of the tumor over the past 21 months with a positive attitude, a smile and with the support of friends and family.

Carla is survived by her mother Joan Sargent, siblings Paul Sargent, Gale Sargent, Sally Piercy (Grant), nieces and nephew Chalise Abelhouzen, Jasmine Sargent, Crystal Sargent (Tony), Jennifer Moser (James) and Greg Piercy (Dantzel), and by great nieces and nephews Cayden Abelhouzen, Kennedy Abelhouzen, Chandler Abelhouzen, Lynn Larsen, Aliyah Corrao, Hunter Sargent, Archer Sargent, Jack Piercy, Nya Piercy and Sophia Piercy. Carla was preceded in death by her father Carl Sargent and sisters-in-law Deanna Sargent and Star Sargent.

Carla was born on October 13, 1961 in Coalville, UT. In her youth, she loved competing in athletics and excelled in basketball. She graduated from North Summit High School in 1979 and continued her education at Weber State University, where she received a degree in sociology in 1983. Once graduated from Weber State, she pursued a career in clinical and medical research. She became an expert at clinical research and found great joy knowing that her work had the potential of benefiting many people's lives through medical advancement. Her career eventually relocated her to Austin, TX, where she made many friends and fell in love with the Lone Star State and became a full-blown Texan.

Carla had many passions beyond her career. Among these were world history, reading and oceanography, with a special love for whales and dolphins. She was also a life-long, die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Furthermore, what brought her the most joy was sharing in these passions with her friends and family.

More recently, Carla was hired as a math tutor at the North Summit Middle School. She found great purpose and excitement being a Brave once again. Many friendships were developed, as she grew close with students and faculty. Carla loved helping students push themselves to achieve their goals, hoping that her work would have a long-standing impact on the lives she touched.

Carla will be greatly missed by her friends and family but is now at peace. A special thanks to Jeanette Vernon, Audrey Stembridge and Britney Atkinson.

The viewing will be held on Thursday, November 21st from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Hoytsville LDS Church, 1095 S. Hoytsville Rd., Coalville, UT 84017. The funeral services will be on Friday, November 22nd at 12:00 pm. There will be a viewing from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm prior to the funeral services.
