C. Richard Bishop

Carl Richard Bishop, 81 of Sandy, Utah, left this earth surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 4, 2019

Richard was born in Mutual, Utah near Helper to Bernice Eilizabeth Graham Bishop and Willie Henry Bishop on November 8, 1937.  He was the third of four children.

Dad was always a fighter, at the young age of 6, he contracted rheumatic fever and when he was finally well enough, he proved his doctor wrong, who said he would never walk again, by climbing the stairs over and over to regain his strength.

Dad was a hard worker, beginning by working in the restaurant his parents owned in Sandy, Utah called the Town House. Dad attended Jordan High School and graduated in 1957.  He lettered in track, running the 440 and 100 yard dash. Dad met mom, Nancy Lee Steadman on a blind date and they married on June 19, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple. They would have been married for 60 years this June.

Dad was drafted  the U. S Army in 1960, He spent time at Ft. Ord, Ft. Sill Oklahoma, the DMV zone between North and South Korea, and Ft. Bragg.  He was honorably discharged in 1963.

Dad had a way of making everyone laugh no matter how tough the situation.  He loved small children and would always stop, get down on their level and talk with them.  He had many famous quotes such as; "An inch is as good as a mile," and "If they haven't seen it before, they won't know what it is, and if they have, it won't matter!"

Dad was an avid hunter and loved more than anything to be out in nature with his entire family, camping and enjoying the mountains around him.

Dad managed and owned several restaurants in and around the Salt Lake Valley including the Holladay Cafe, The Royal Inn Restaurant, The Highway House, Bishop's Diner and BJ's Diner. He also spent many years working for Intermountain Merchants Supply, selling and installing school cafeteria equipment.  He spent a few years working for Restaurant Stores and Standard Restaurant Equipment in Salt Lake, he then retired, however he got bored, so he went over to Draper City and was hired to drive the Senior Bus.

Dad spent many years serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in the scouting program.  He also served as an executive secretary and a counselor in the Young Men's program.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lee Steadman Bishop; children, Kjersti Jarman (Todd), Wayne Bishop (Shawni), Kimberlee Robbins; grandchildren, Haylee Carroll (Britton), Jeromy Jarman (Kaylee), Zach Fife, Molly Jarman, Shay Fife, Gage Robbins, Jorden Fife, Brock Robbins, Scott Jarman, Hunter Bishop. Dad was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Joyce, brother, Raymond and his grandchild, Jax Robbins.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Crescent 30th Ward, 11000 S. 85 E.  There will be a viewing at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 S. 700 E., Draper, Utah from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on April 8th and preceding the services from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates, West Jordan, Utah.
