Brian Richard Davis passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 29, 2023.
Brian was born in Calcutta, India in 1934 and attended boarding school in Darjeeling. At the age of 10, he was sent to school in England, living with his aunt, uncle and cousin Colin. After graduating from Loughborough College with an engineering degree, Brian took a job in Ontario, Canada. He met Dilys Morgan at a dance while visiting his father in England over Christmas. He returned to Canada while Dilys finished her studies in physical therapy, and they exchanged letters for three years before marrying during a snowstorm at the end of December, 1961. After getting married, they settled in Vancouver, where he earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of British Columbia. From there, they moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario, and had two children, Martin and Fiona, before being transferred to Wayne, New Jersey.
Brian and his wife loved racing sailboats, whether a zippy Sunfish or a 26-foot Balboa. They won the Aquarius National Championship in a race from Newport Beach to Catalina Island, sailed in dense fog as the children fished over the stern. He worked in Texas for 25 years before retiring to a house in the country and a barn filled with the essentials: an industrial generator, a forklift, and two cranes. In later life, Brian and Dilys settled in Utah. He’s survived by his wife Dilys, son Martin, daughter Fiona, daughter-in-law Mace, and granddaughters Caitlin, Erin, and Lauren. Private services will be held.
