Brent Mickelsen

Brent Gordon Mickelsen, 79, beloved father, grandfather, husband, and son, passed away July 4, 2023, after a long illness. He grew up on Dimple Dell Road in Sandy, Utah, with his parents, Gordon and Dorothy, brother Chris, grandmother Mary, and great-uncle Ed. As a child he was full of mischief and loved animals and the outdoors. He was an avid skier until knee and back injuries piled up. He was a lifelong fisherman, loved camping, and was happiest on a lake or seashore with no one around.

He married Donna Rae Meyer in 1965, whom he met on a blind date while vacationing with friends at Yellowstone National Park, where Donna was working for the summer. They had three daughters: Mary, Denise, and Adrianne. Brent attended University of Utah and Westminster College; he earned an Associate’s degree in nursing from Salt Lake Community College. He had various jobs over the years including plumber, janitor, contractor, operating room nurse, and computer technician. He had a photographic memory and could recite any fact he’d ever read. He knew a little bit about everything and was Google before the Internet existed. Brent was also a master carpenter and built the house on Dimple Dell where his kids grew up, mostly by himself. He studied the Bible and had a strong Christian faith.

Brent was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and brother; his wife, Donna, and his daughter, Adrianne. He is survived by his daughters Mary (Brian Jacobs), Denise (Richard Peden) and dearly loved grandchildren Conrad, Elise, Avalina, Madeleine, and Landon. He will be profoundly missed.
