Bob Cutler

Our beloved father, brother, and friend, Robert Haywood Cutler, “Bob” passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024, after a brief but valiant fight with Leukemia.

Bob was born on April 11, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clifford Davey and Inez Noble Cutler, and grew up in a loving family. He attended South High School where he excelled in sports and played football and varsity basketball. Bob always had a deep love of sports and was an excellent basketball player and a top scorer for South High in every game.

Bob served in the US Army Reserve and after High School was called up to Korea to participate in the aftermath of the Korean War.

After his time in Korea, Bob chose to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to serve in the Northwestern States Mission which encompassed Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska.

Bob excelled as a missionary and loved preaching the gospel. There, he deepened his testimony of Jesus Christ and gained a love of the scriptures and an uncanny ability to memorize passages. During his time as a missionary he served as a Missionary Supervisor, a Branch President for the Ketchikan Alaska Branch, and with his companion, was the first missionary to serve in Boise in 50 years. Bob’s testimony of Jesus Christ, of the restored church, and priesthood power only grew throughout his life, was rock solid, and was an absolute inspiration to those who knew him.

After his mission, Bob attended Brigham Young University, majored in Exercise Science, and went on to work as a Physical Education Instructor at Lincoln Junior High in Salt Lake City. During his professional life, he also worked as a driver’s education instructor, a switchman on the railroad, owner and operator of a Dairy Queen, and after his retirement, a part-time taxicab driver for Ute Cab.

Bob’s children were the light of his life and he always strove to teach them the gospel and to be a supportive father. He is survived by his oldest two sons, Michael Cutler (Krissy) and Matthew Cutler, from his first wife, and his youngest son, Cody Cutler from his second wife, Margie Bateman. He and Margie were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on April 14, 1982. He is also survived by his younger sister Carol Cutler Mansfield (Ben), and younger brother, Frank Cutler. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Clifford Cutler, and his wife, Margie.

As per Bob’s request, there will be no funeral and no viewing, but family and friends are invited to a short graveside service and dedication of the grave on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. The grave is located at the David O. McKay Gravesite Hill on the corner of Main Street and Hillside Avenue in the cemetery.
