Blaine Astle Carling, 86, passed away on December 16, 2020, surrounded by family. He fought blindness and dementia for many years. Blaine was born on October 12, 1934 in Providence, Utah, to George Isaac and Clara Pearl Astle Carling.
He graduated from South Cache High School in Hyrum, Utah, and then attended Utah State University (Utah State Agricultural College) for a year. Blaine then served in the Korean War (U.S. Army).
He married Ann Maxwell in 1960. They were parents of three children. They later divorced. On September 8, 1972, he married Lola Faye Lloyd in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with one daughter.
Blaine was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings. He serve an LDS mission to the Gulf states from 1956-58, an 18-month service mission on Temple Square, and as a veil worker in the Jordan River Temple for over 20 years. He retired after 25 years of employment with Jordan School District.
Blaine will always be remembered for his kindness and respect for others. Knowing and loving him was our pleasure.
He loved gardening and enjoyed sharing his produce with others. He loved sports, especially football, until an eye disease took his sight from him. He was a dedicated BYU fan.
Blaine is survived by his sweetheart of over 48 years, and his children Cara (Alan) Collier, Jon (Megan) Carling, Steven (Jenn) Carling, and Camille Bowers, 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and one on the way. He is also survived by brothers and sisters: Lola (Dee) Savage, Darold, Lee (Kathy), Eva (James) Johnston, Grant (Nola), sisters-in-law Beverly and Eileen Carling, and brother-in-law David Johnson. Preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Ivan, Ray, and Linda Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 22 at 12 Noon at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, with a viewing one hour prior to the services. Interment, Crescent Cemetery.
