Betty Jean McNamara died December 30, 2022, at her residence at the Sugarhouse Legacy Village, Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born in Midvale, Utah, on September 3, 1923, the first child of Wallace J and Myrtle Boyle McNamara.
Betty was a graduate of Jordan High School and the University of Utah, earning a BA in American History, an MA in School Counseling and a PhD in Educational Administration. She worked as a teacher and counselor in the Granite School District for 30 years and was active in the Utah School Counselors Association. Betty also graduated from the LDS Hospital School of Nursing and served in the Army Nurse Corps during WWII.
She was an avid reader, traveled worldwide and enjoyed her bridge clubs; and she loved gardening, knitting, small children and all animals, especially her cats. She was a listener from the heart and had a great impact on many people’s lives and was well-loved.
Betty is survived by her brother, James M. McNamara, Sun City West, Arizona, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by three siblings: sister, Shirley (James) Brobst; ¬¬¬¬sister, Frances (Hollis) Canida; brother, Robert W. (Joanne) McNamara.
Upon her request, there will be no viewing or service. A gathering of family and friends will tentatively be held in the Spring for a celebration of life.
