Bertha Rose Tapp

Bertha Rose Tapp, our sweet mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, June 2, 2017 in Park City, Utah.

Mom was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 27, 1936 to Ragnhild Laura Malene Wedding and Harold Arthur Jensen. The 8th of 11 children, she spent an active childhood between Utah and Idaho. As a teen, mom was set up on a blind date with one of dad's friends. Dad was in the group with another girl, but when he caught a glimpse of mom walking down the stairs, he quickly made arrangements to trade his date for mom. The rest is history. Mom was married to Donald George Tapp, Sr. in Coalville, Utah on Friday, September 5, 1952. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mom and dad made their home in the Union area. She raised and is survived by her eight children; Vic (Jeanie) Tapp, Cristy (Todd) Smith, Laurie (Frank) Ostmann, Todd (Pauline) Tapp, Jamie (Gary) Richins, Donald Tapp Jr., Lisa (Scott) Rudrow and Aaron (Susan) Tapp. She cherished each of her 42 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren. Mom is also survived by her brothers Reginald and Junius Jensen, and her sister and dear friend, Jewel Berg. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sweetheart Don, her brothers Harold, Conrad, Leo, Louis and David, her sisters Ruth and Connie, and her two precious great grandchildren, Bridger and Finleigh Smith.

Mom's life was charity personified. She had a heart of gold and loved everyone she met. She was quick with a smile, a hug, her trademark laugh and a tailor-made song. Her family was her treasure. She never let a birthday or a special event pass without a phone call, a text message, or later in life the gift of one of her personalized hand crafted cards with a two-dollar bill neatly tucked inside. Mom was not happy unless she was helping someone else. Her biggest worry was worrying about someone else. She loved to mother and she doted on her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was everyone's counselor, listener, and motivational coach in times of pain or struggle. She had an amazing ability to bind wounds and heal broken hearts. Her optimism and laughter were infectious and her personality could literally light up a room.

Mom spent several of her last years with her daughter Lisa (Scott) Rudrow and her family in San Antonio, Texas.

We are grateful for the assistance Rachel and Dusty Leavitt provided for mom during the last year. So many other family members provided support through the years. That help was always met with mom's unbounded love and gratitude. The family also wishes to express appreciation for the health care professionals at the Intermountain Park City Hospital who enabled mom to spend her last moments on earth with loved ones.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 am the Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street in Midvale. A viewing will begin at 10:00 am at the same location. Mom will be interred at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South in Cottonwood Heights.
