Bertha Eloyza Alarcon De Ampuero

On July 15, 2020, Bertha Eloyza Alarcon de Ampuero passed away at the age of 94. She was born in Betansos, Potosi, Bolivia, to Saturnino Alarcon and Graciela Zapata de Alarcon. She was known to everyone as Eloyza, but to her family she was known as monjita (little nun) because she was so quiet and peaceful.

Eloyza was working as an RN when she met the love of her life Augusto P. Ampuero, who was working as a radiologist. They married on December 12, 1959. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past December.

They made their home in La Paz, Bolivia. After a year they were blessed with their first child, a son, Rolando A. Ampuero, and two years later with a daughter, Ximena E. Johnson.

Eloyza worked as an RN as her children were born. After a few years, her husband asked if she was willing to quit her job as a nurse to regain her children's love?  Eloyza did not think twice. The next day she quit her job and became a full-time stay-at-home mom. Many of her coworkers told her that she was crazy for leaving a very high paying job to be a full-time wife and mother, but, to her, none of that mattered. All she wanted was to be with her children.

Eloyza met the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints missionaries in 1967. They waited until their son turned eight to be baptized. Eloyza has had a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel since the first day the missionaries shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with her. She taught the gospel to her children and always shared her testimony with them.

Eloyza was sealed to her husband and her children in 1975 in the Provo Utah Temple. She moved to the United States of America permanently in 1988.

Eloyza was preceded in death by her parents and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband Augusto Ampuero, her son Rolando Ampuero(Kerry), her daughter Ximena Johnson(Chris), 10 Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
