Bert Emil Johnson passed away peacefully in his home in Midvale, Utah, on September 29, 2018. Bert was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on May 25, 1938 to Emil Hilbert "Jack" Johnson and Martha Lenora Jensen Johnson. Bert was a joy and a crackup to all who knew him. He was the friendliest person you'd ever meet and he always had a tease or wisecrack up his sleeve, whether you were a stranger or a long-time friend. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the preeminent role of the Savior. He served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also one of the most devoted BYU Cougar fans in the history of the world.
Bert grew up in several areas in the Intermountain West, graduating from Lincoln High School in Orem, Utah. He served an honorable mission to the Northwest States. Bert and Jeanne were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 1, 1970. Bert graduated with Honors from his archrival, the University of Utah, with a Bachelors degree in Communications and a Masters Degree in Audiology. He used this education to better the lives of hundreds of military veterans, including many handicapped service members, in helping them pursue university and vocational education and training. Simultaneously, he also fulfilled a part-time career serving our country and the State of Utah in the Utah Army National Guard.
Bert's greatest joy was his family. He adored his beloved wife, Jeanne and his children and grandchildren. He was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Bert is survived by his wonderful wife, Jeanne; his children, Eric (Arian), Jeff (Paige), and Jinger (Clint); his seven beautiful grandchildren (Benjamin, Bryce, Mark, Tessa, Gwen, Bodie, and Kayla); and his sister Marilyn (Don) and brother Bob (Carole). His family will miss him tremendously and anxiously awaits a joyful reunion with him.
