Barbara Jones Hansen, a longtime resident of Los Altos, California, passed away on September 21, 2017.
She was born on March 27, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Victor and Susan Alberta Blackett Jones. Barbara was raised in Nephi, Utah in a large, close-knit family. Her love of education led her to study at Utah State where she graduated with a B.A. degree in English with minors in Journalism and French. After graduation she was hired to teach at Tooele High School in Utah. Barbara left teaching to become a stewardess for United Air Lines in San Francisco for a year and a half until she married her husband, Larry. Barbara and Larry returned to Utah State where she taught English and he attended college. They moved several times, eventually ending in Los Altos.
Barbara married Larry Hansen in 1954. Larry and Barbara traveled extensively; Barbara liked meeting new people and visiting interesting places. She loved art and literature and enjoyed oil painting and gardening. Barbara was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities. She especially enjoyed teaching young people. Barbara loved her family. She supported Larry in all his endeavors and was extremely proud of his accomplishments. Barbara was a loving mother and an adoring grandmother. Her family was the center of her life and the source of her greatest pride.
Barbara is survived by her husband; children: Jana (Darryl) Rains, Orinda; Liz (John) Olson, Rocklin; Brad (Kristina) Hansen, San Carlos; Karen Hansen, Watsonville; eight grandchildren (Erin, Chris, Brian, Eric, Jordan, Kevin, Sean, and Angela); five great-grandsons; sister, Darlene Anderson, Salt Lake City, Utah; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Jones, Logan, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Melba Bowen, Lenora Richardson, Mildred Burton; and brothers: George Eldon, Richard, Sherman, and Gordon Jones.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Los Altos LDS Chapel, 190 Jordan Avenue, Los Altos, California. A funeral service will also be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Nephi, Utah. Interment will be at the Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, Utah.
