Austin Brook Mcelmurry

Our beloved son, brother, grandchild and friend Austin Brook McElmurry returned to his Father in Heaven the evening of February 5th, 2020. He was born on January 9th, 1996 to Lisa and Brook McElmurry at the Cottonwood Hospital in Murray, Utah. He made his first home in Taylorsville. After moving a few times, he settled down in Sandy where he attended Altara Elementary, Indian Hills Middle School and Alta High School where, to the surprise of his parents who struggled to help him complete his schoolwork, he graduated with honors.

Austin was the adventurous type who loved the outdoors and nature. His first vehicle was a 1992 Jeep Grand Cherokee which he would often take off-roading. He became a wildfire fire fighter and helped put out the devastating fires that rocked Colorado in 2016. He traveled with his family to Rexberg, Idaho to take in the grandeur of a total solar eclipse with those he loved.

Austin had a love for guns and could often be found target shooting. He especially loved going out with his grandfather as they had a special bond.

Austin loved to prank others, especially his brothers and sister. He awed us all by his wealth of knowledge and facts that he would share on practically any topic, especially history. He had a love for learning anything and everything.

Austin was known for his hard work and great work ethic. During High school Austin started his first job at subway, and later moved to little Caesars. He was always very diligent with his responsibilities by walking to work in wind, rain, and even snow; nothing deterred him from reaching his goals.  He started working right out of high school at Home Depot where he loved helping people. He seemed to have the location of everything memorized as his dad learned the best way to find something would be to ask him and he would tell him what aisle, bin and even shelf it was on. He was never wrong.

Later he moved on to work at CVS Pharmacy as a manager where he was frequently called to work at other stores who needed extra help, because his great work ethic reputation preceded him.

Austin is most remembered for his big heart. He had a love for all and would drop everything to help someone in need. If he found something he loved, like a new food, he would make sure others knew about it so they too could try it. He was extremely creative and loved to make arts and crafts such as a pvc dart gun, a potato rocket, or even his many creations on video games which he enjoyed playing and showing off his achievements to his siblings. He had a grand imagination unlike anyone you will ever meet, he always had so many outside of the box ideas and he enjoyed creating things.

Austin is survived and greatly missed by his Parents, Lisa and Brook McElmurry, Grandparents Richard and Margo Sharp, Brothers Cody, Preston, Kolton and Kaden, Sister Laci and many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Preceded in death and welcomed into heaven by his grandparents Kenneth and Lavonne McElmurry, Aunts Starlene, Misty-ann and Teresa and Cousin Travis.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 11 AM at the LDS Chapel Pampas building located at 10885 South Pampas Drive in Sandy, Utah.
