Antoine Langford Martineau

Antoine Langford Martineau, age 93, passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, 2024.

Antoine was born on June 11, 1931 to George Albert Martineau Jr. and Lillie May Langford. After losing his mother at the tender age of 3, Antoine was taken in by the Webster family until he was ready to set out on his own. He accepted a mission call but was honorably released from his call to serve his country in the Marines. Following his service, he returned home and married Dixie Ruth Kearsley on December 1, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Antoine and Dixie raised their family of four daughters and one son in Midvale, Utah in the home that Antoine built. He worked in residential and commercial construction long past the traditional retirement age and also owned a small business. As an expert builder, Antoine also built a beautiful life with his family. He worked hard, but he also took every opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren, whether it was boating, skiing, gardening, 4 wheeling, camping, snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, or his favorite – riding horses. He was also a gifted woodworker and spent much of his retirement time crafting beautiful toys, furniture, and keepsakes that will be treasured by his family.

Antoine was a lifelong, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many callings over the years, but his favorite was working with the youth. He and Dixie attended the temple and fulfilled their ministering assignments regularly, setting a great example of Christlike service for their family.

Antoine had a gift for making and keeping friends. He was quick with a joke and quick to forgive. Those who were fortunate enough to spend time with him were better for it.

Antoine will be greatly missed, but his example, influence and love will always be with us. He is survived by his eternal companion, Dixie, and children Debbie Edmunds (Gary), Laurie Hales (Tom), Shauna Robertson (Bruce), Kathy Spafford, and Scott (Charlene). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Antoine was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Grant and Jay; sisters Rhea Martineau, Annis Webb, Inez Burell, Rita Gardner; grandson Gary Edmunds Jr.; and great-granddaughter Ivy Garcia.

The funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 12:00 noon at the Midvale Stake Center located at 97 West 7500 South, Midvale, Utah.
