"Man of Integrity"
Andrew Clyde Glad died September 9, 2018 surrounded by loving family. He was born April 25, 1932 in South Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Clyde D. Glad and May Thomson. He was the eldest of a family of 9 children. After graduation from Granite High School he was preparing to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, when he was drafted into the military to serve our country in the Korean Conflict. He met Janet Zabriskie upon his return after his service and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 17, 1956. He then attended LDS Business College where he received a degree in Accounting. During his working years he was always seeking knowledge and attended UVU and Westminster College graduating with his MBA degree.
He served his community in many ways: over 20 years in the Boy Scouts of America - where he was awarded the Silver Beaver, as a volunteer police officer, volunteer fireman - where he and his friend William Clough became the first firefighters to organize the Sandy City Fire Department as a Professional department and it was no longer a volunteer program. As Assistant Fire Chief (35 years) he taught Cert Classes, and was instrumental in organizing the EMT and Paramedic services for Sandy City. He continued his volunteer activities through the Sandy Exchange Club, and taught Train Safety to hundreds of Student Drivers for the Operation LifeSaver Program. He was also invited to go on the Honor Flight for World War II and Korean War Veterans.
He served in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - 15 years as a Ward Clerk with 3 Bishops, as a Bishop's Counselor, and many years as a Temple Ordinance Worker. He had a deep and abiding testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife: Janet - over 62 years together, 3 children - son Robert Glad (Diane), son Steven Glad (Nancy), daughter Connie Speters (Lynn), 10 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
Services are as follows: Viewing Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Mount Jordan 3rd Ward building at 8950 S. 400 E., Sandy, Utah from 6:00 p.m thru 8:00 p.m. Funeral Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Mount Jordan 3rd Ward building - Viewing from 9:30 a.m to 10:45 a.m. with funeral beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment at the Sandy City Cemetery.
