Alvin C. Kastner, died in Sandy, Utah on September 24, 2016. He was 90 years old.
Born on June 9, 1926, in Queens, New York City. Al was in the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces in World War II for two years, where he went to engineering school and then overseas to the Pacific Theater. Al became a Quartermaster, Third Class, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then graduated from St. John's University with a dual degree, Pre-Medical and Mathematics, taught math in New York City for two years, married Loretta M. Trefcer in 1950, worked for Todd Combustion Engineering in New York and Texas together for nine years, and Hercules Aerospace in Maryland and Utah together for 25 years. Al retired from Hercules (now Alliant Techsystems) in 1986 as a supervisor in the Engineering Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Frances (Leible); his sisters Frances (Howard McCunn/Phillip Contorno) and Marie Cecelia; his brothers George (Sabina Raso) and Paul (Waltraud Ferrall); his son Kenneth (Kathryn Peterson), his daughter, Linda, and their mother, Loretta.
Al is survived by his sister Marie Gladys (Ludwig Ameres); five sons: Richard (Peggy Brown), Thomas (Debra Ferguson), David (Marcela Matousova), Glenn (Lisa Colonell), and William (Monica Benites); 23 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 624 W. Lennox St., Midvale, where there will be a viewing from 10-11 a.m. Interment, Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
