Allen Gene Chantry

Allen Gene Chantry, 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 10, 2021.

Gene was born on December 7, 1935 in Price Utah to Thomas Carol and Lura Catherine Chantry. He grew up in Wellington, Utah where his mother and grandmother raised he and his sister Catherine. He served in the Army stationed in Hawaii. During his life he worked in several coal mines mainly as a mechanic and was very good at what he did.

He lived a good life doing what he loved, which was raising cattle and farming. He bought and sold cattle and had several Arabian horses and rode a great deal in the Wellington area. He liked to explore different experiences during his life here on earth. He started up 2 different restaurants, one in Price many years ago, and one in Malad, Idaho in the late 90's. He served in many church positions and especially loved teaching in Primary.

In 1993 he met the love of his life Judy. They married in 1995 and lived in Layton, Utah, Malad, Idaho and in 2002 moved to Manti, Utah. He was retired but decided to explore yet another area of employment so he went to work at Lake Powell working as a mechanic on house boats and repairing boat propellers. Then off to another adventure he and Judy opened a copy shop in 2008 in Ephraim, Utah called Kopy Katz. They were well known for their great customer service, their love of the missionaries and were liked by their customers. When Gene decided he had too much to do at home, he retired yet told everyone that Judy had fired him.

He hunted and collected different rocks and would polish them and make jewelry for his family. His favorite day trip was to go to the Wedge also known as The Little Grand Canyon near Price, Utah. He was planning an Easter trip for next year to take the kids and grandkids and show them his favorite overlook. He was a talented artist, silversmith and saddle maker.

Gene is survived by his wife Judy, children, Allen, Andrea, Laura (Kenny) Crump, Angie (Joe) Bleazard, Keith (Becky) Murphy, Chris (Carol Ann) Murphy and Janet Murphy (Doug Hunter), 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and son Greg.

Funeral services will be held December 17, 2021 at 11:00 at 285 South Main Street in Manti, Utah. There will be a viewing on Thursday, December 16 from 6-8 PM and 10-10:45 prior to the funeral.
