Alfred John Nelson

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully May 19, 2017.

Born May 28, 1937 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Ellen Elizabeth Sutherland and Alfred Albert Nelson. Graduated from Jordan High School in 1955 and served his country 2 years in the Army and National Guard.

Married Elaine Abraham March 11, 1960. Sealed for time and all eternity November 11, 1981.

They have five children, Lisa Annette (Vince) Groves, Lesle Dian (Jim) Brown, Lyndsie Shae (Cameron) Esplin, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by their 2 children Alfred David and Lori Melinda and his only sibling Donna Butterfield.

Alfred and Elaine raised their family on the family farm in South Jordan. This area was dear to Alfred. His father and mother moved from Bingham Canyon to the farm when he was 5 years old. Alfred lost his Dad when he was 18. He stayed on the farm and raised his family and stayed close to his mother until her death.  Alfred worked for Kennecott Copper for 30 years, was a lifetime mechanic working out of his own garage, owning Al's Auto Center in Riverton. He also worked for Western/Delta Airlines and spent numerous hours dedicating his time and service to others.

Alfred's finest joy in life was time spent on the porch of his custom-built log cabin in Libby, Montana watching the Kootenai River and enjoying the warm weather of St. George, Utah, and taking the scenic route on every ride he took. Of all the treasures he kept, his family was his most beloved treasure of all!

We want to express our gratitude to all the dedicated caregivers who tended to Dad's needs these past few years.

Funeral Services, Thursday, May 25th, 1 p.m., Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, where friends may call one hour prior. Interment, Bingham Cemetery.
