Draper, Utah - Mama went to sleep at Sierra Vista and woke up in Heaven. Alejandra (Alexis) passed away on July 20, 2016 at her home in Draper, Utah after a long illness. She was born on March 15, 1941 to Monico and Alejandra Gutierrez Tabarez in Delta, Colorado. She grew up in Ogden and later moved to Salt Lake. Alex married Northrop E. Garfield, Jr. on October 23, 1959 in Draper, Utah.

Mama was a homemaker. She loved country western music, especially Marty Robbins and Dolly Parton. Alex enjoyed reading, coloring and watching birds. She loved all her pets and spending time with her family.

She was a devout Catholic and a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

Survived by her devoted and caring husband of 57 years, Jr.; children, Selena Matthews (Kipp), Mt. Pleasant, UT, Northrop Enniss Garfield III (Sheryl), Grants Pass, OR and Valerie Bertran, Sandy, UT; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; siblings, Tina Paddock, Taylorsville, UT; Ruby Vargas, San Francisco, CA and Johnny Tabarez, Syracuse, UT. Preceded in death by her parents, brother, Lupe and sister, Jessie.

A funeral mass will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 300 East 11800 South, Draper, Utah with a viewing 1 hour prior to the mass. A holy rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, Utah, followed by a viewing from 6:30-8 p.m. Interment, Draper City Cemetery.
