Alex Rottlaender, just 23 years old of Sandy, Utah was tragically and unexpectedly lost on July 24, 2024.
He was born on January 4, 2001 to Shasha Santistevan and Brian Rottlaender, his loving parents. He was a beautiful baby and always had a great sense of humor since he was a little kid.
As a small child he had to overcome some rough obstacles such as two broken femur bones at two separate times in his life which resulted in a body cast twice. Alex was full of adventure and loved to try new things, this is why he also ended up with a broken arm at one point as well.
He was a 4.0 honor roll student so many times at Jordan High School that I lost count. Alex got his first job at Jiffy Lube in Sandy when he was 16 years old, where he became a valuable and loved member to his J-Team family. He enjoyed his job and had worked for the company ever since.
In 2019 Alex was diagnosed with thymic mediastinal lymphoma. He beat cancer with chemotherapy and radiation. Alex enjoyed playing the piano at Primary Children’s Hospital the weeks he had to stay there. He graduated high school with honors from his hospital bed and he still put on his graduation cap and gown with his honorary sash for me to take his picture. We were all very proud of him.
Alex attended Utah State University in Logan where he was an amazingly talented baritone saxophone player for the USU Jazz Orchestra. He was very loved and adored by his jazz band family. Before he left us too soon, he had the opportunity to go on a European tour with the USU Jazz Orchestra and play in several prestigious jazz festivals. He was awarded his Bachelor’s Degree posthumously and will be unforgotten on the university’s Aggies Forever wall.
The family and friends of Alex are devastated by his loss. He had a vibrant future and so many things yet to experience. Despite this tragedy his family and friends cherish the memories they had during their time together. We will dearly miss his hilarious sense of humor, his Rubix cube skills, his skateboard skills, his beautiful artworks, and his incredible talent for music. Alex was a bright and inspiring soul who wanted to help others and he gave many people a whole new appreciation for music. Alex truly enjoyed performing for others and he loved nothing more than his two huge orange cats Rumi and Bix.
Alex Brian Rottlaender was preceded in death by his father Brian Jacob Rottlaender and survived by his mother Shasha Santistevan, Jerry Stanfield (step-father), Alisia Young (sister) and Andrew Stanfield (brother).
