May 5, 1954 — January 4, 2019

Alan Bennett Johnson

"It was a pleasant sunny day in May when our only son was born at the Cottonwood Maternity Home in Murray, UT on the 5th of May 1954. He was the largest of our 3 children weighing 8 pounds and 11 ounces. What a beautiful baby he was and what a handsome young man he is now. He was a delight to us all with his good natured disposition and his sweet smiling ways."

These are our mother's words in our family album. My baby brother passed away early Thursday morning at Life Care Center of Bountiful after a short illness. He was 64. His parents, Amos Elliott Johnson and Elaine Bennett, preceded him in death. His sisters, Mary Pusey and Elaine Olson, and his nephew, Ruark Olson, survive him.

Alan was confirmed, baptized, and ordained to each of his priesthood callings by his father. He was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout. He attended Midvale Elementary, Midvale Jr. High (on the track team), and graduated from Hillcrest High in 1972. He served in the Navy.

Alan loved plants and filled his room with them as a child. He loved animals and enjoyed taking care of his dogs, fish, hamsters and mice. All were buried under our lilac bush when they passed away. He also loved antiques, old cars, and guns. He loved collecting coins and baseball cards. He was currently working on his genealogy and loved searching for ancestors.

Thanks to all who helped him through these past months:

Veteran's Administration, doctors, nurses, and support staff.

Life Care Center of Salt Lake City and Bountiful.

Lakeview Hospital, emergency doctors and nurses; hospital doctors, nurses, and staff.

Legacy Hospice.

This event came quickly. We will miss Alan very much. A family prayer will take place Tuesday, January 8, at 11:45 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, followed by a graveside service at 12 noon in the Sandy City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Veteran's Administration to help our veterans.
