After 91 years of blessing the lives of family, dear friends and others who crossed paths with her on this earth, Afton Nadine Jones Blackett was reunited with her husband Evan, her parents, siblings and other dear family members and friends in a most love filled, joyous celebration in heaven early the morning of Thursday, November 7, 2019.
Nadine was born August 15, 1928 in Nephi Utah to Edward Leonard and Birdie Crosland Jones. She was loved and adored by her siblings Douglas, LaPriel, Harold and Ronald. She was educated in Juab County Schools, graduating from Juab High School. Nadine has always had a warm personality, beautiful smile and a contagious laugh. She was a happy, patient person by nature.
Nadine married her long time sweet heart, Evan H. Blackett on May 27, 1947 in Nephi (marriage later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple) together they worked hard to build a comfortable life for themselves and their three children Marlow E, Jeanette and Morris. Their kids were always taught the value of a good days work. Nadine has always worked and where ever she worked she met and made lifelong friends, some of her jobs include cashier at Nephi Drug and IGA grocery store, clerk at Brinkerhoff's department store, receptionist for the United States Forrest Service, a cook at Central Valley Medical Center and up until her accident in September she was working for Juab County in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum. Where ever she was employed she was a hard worker, dependable and did all her jobs cheerfully. Nadine was a member of the Nautalis Club, she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in the Primary and Relief Society organizations in addition to being the Ward Librarian for many years. Nadine was a great example of service to others. A high light in her recent years was being selected as the 2018 Ute Stampede Mammoth Parade Grand Marshall. Nadine had an amazing memory and could remember names, dates, places and events.
"You Are My Sunshine" will be the song that Nadine's grandchildren will always remember her by. Nadine loved each and every grandchild and great-grandchild. Each hold dear and special memories of their time with Granny B. Nadine is famous for her yummy banana bread, pumpkin cookies and egg sandwiches. You could always find a dish of treats on her kitchen table, fridge stocked with Sunny-D, Capri Sun and of course Pepsi. The grand kids loved playing in the junk drawer and with the marbles. Family was always an important part of her life, she loved cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews dearly.
Nadine was a friend to everyone young and old. Once you met her you were like family. She enjoyed daily drives around town checking up on her kids, grandkids and friends. Nadine loved her "Center Street" home and neighborhood. Nadine could knit and crochet beautifully making many afghans, hangers, hot pads and dish cloths. Nadine loved music, singing (especially singing harmony with her brothers) playing the organ and dancing. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to whoever was in need.
Nadine is survived by her children Marlow E. (Marjorie) Blackett, Nephi, Jeanette B. (Steve) Middaugh, Reno, Nevada, Morris (Lisa) Blackett, Nephi, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Evan H.
