Dell was born on January 13, 1942 at Cottonwood Hospital in Murray, Utah to Joseph Lynn Welch and Elaine Holt Welch. He was the second of five children, Pamela, Elaine, Jolene and Don. As a boy, he grew up in Midvale, Utah, where he played sports and developed a work ethic that would follow him through life. Dell graduated from Jordan High School in 1960 and married his High School Sweetheart, Brenda K. Webster, shortly after at the age of 19. Within a year, they had their first of three children, Jeff, followed later by Ken and Jodi. Dell worked hard to provide for his family and was always there to support his children. He attended all of their sporting events and gymnastic meets, while balancing a family owned business, Welch Fun Cars. Even though he put in hours of overtime, he would never miss a chance to yell at an umpire for a horrible call or cheer after a perfect dismount. This tenacity actually made him quite famous at the baseball and football fields.
Dell Welch will always be remembered for his hard work and dedication to help others. His love and support for his children carried on with eight grandchildren, who will miss him dearly. Dell was the type of person who spoke his mind and wasn't afraid of what anyone else thought. He often kept his emotions inside, but the ones around him always knew they were loved. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, but most of all, he was one of a kind.
Dell passed away at home on July 28, 2016 with his wife of 55 years at his side. Brenda was the love of his life, and they weathered many storms together. He will continue to live on in our hearts; may he rest in peace.
