Louis Steven Damolaris

Louis "Louie" Steven Damolaris departed life at the age of 57, on March 20, 2015.  The sadness of his loss is deeply felt by family and friends; and his presence, passions and zest for life will be greatly missed.

Born in Chicago, IL, at age six he lost his mother in a tragic car accident, followed by his father when he was twelve, at which time he and his sister Stephanie went to live with his Aunt Betty and Uncle Cecil Campbell in Bensenville, IL.  He attended and graduated from Fenton High School and attended the College of DuPage.

During a summer trip, Louie visited and fell in love with the beauty of Alaska, and was stationed there when, after high school, he enlisted in the Army, fulfilling a lifelong dream of following in his father's footsteps and serving in the infantry.

Professionally, Louie was drawn toward what would become a lifetime in the culinary arts.  His career included meat cutter and line cook, both working and executive chef, Food & Beverage Director and eventually Restaurant Manager.  A member of the American Culinary Federation, Louie's interviews and recipes appeared in numerous local newspapers and professional journals, and he experienced a period of public acclaim for his innovative work with ostrich meat.  He presented cuisine at culinary shows, wedding receptions, and performed fundraising and volunteer work for groups including the American Cancer Society, Guadalupe Schools and the American Heart Association.  In 2002 he hosted and prepared meals for Olympic families and dignitaries.

In 1989, Louie moved from Chicago to Utah where he would spend the remainder of his life, taking advantage of his great love of the outdoors.  His other passions included his many pets, all things military, and science fiction.

Louie was married to Laura Zaba for seventeen years, and later shared his life with Jennifer Liddell for another seventeen years.

Louis Steven Damolaris was preceded in death by his mother Marcella Ann Jackson Damolaris and his father Steven Damolaris.  He is survived by his sisters Stephanie Wheeler, Julie Jacobus and Sylvia Taft, his Aunt Betty Campbell, and his cousins Stelios Pontikes, Michael Jackson and John Campbell.  Also remaining is Aiden Liddell, who loved his Grandpa Louie very much.
